Project Overview:
Case Study: APM TERMINALS CALLAO Modernizing Peru’s Gateway to Global Trade
Project: Terminal Infrustructure Upgrade
Location: Port of Callao, Peru
Date: Completed 2021
The Challenge: Scale and Logistics
With a requirement for over 130 fender units, the project demanded a partner who could manage large-scale manufacturing without compromising on precision. The logistics were equally complex, requiring a coordinated international delivery strategy to Callao under strict timelines to minimize operational downtime at the terminal.
The DockGuard Solution
We provided a turnkey supply package centered around our high-performance Hollow Cylindrical and DD fender systems. Our solution focused on maximizing energy absorption while keeping reaction forces within the existing quay’s structural limits.
To ensure the project stayed on track, we implemented a strategic “part-shipment” logistics plan. By splitting the manufacturing across specialized facilities and dispatching the goods in multiple phases, we ensured a continuous supply of components for the installation team on-site.
Key System Components:
121 x Hollow Cylindrical Fenders: Engineered for 249.6 kNm energy absorption and 804 kN reaction force.
18 x Hollow DD Fenders: Providing secondary protection with 15.96 kNm energy absorption.
Bespoke Fixing Systems: Includes heavy-duty galvanised chains, U-bar anchors, and support brackets.
Marine-Grade Durability: All rubber components were tested for ozone and seawater resistance to ensure a long service life in the Pacific marine environment.
Project Outcome
The successful delivery of this project reinforces DockGuard’s capability to handle large-scale international port expansions. By combining robust engineering with a flexible logistical approach, we provided APM Terminals with a resilient fendering solution that protects their assets and supports the seamless flow of global trade through the Port of Callao.
